Our Mission to the Deaf Professional Community of San Diego
San Diego is the home of a very large deaf community but the “turnover” is very high compared to many other cities. This means many people lived here for years and have not met most of the other people in the deaf community.
DCPA, founded and run by community members, aim to change this by creating a sense of community among the deaf community professionals. We target the professionals exclusively because they have the disposable income and other resources to stay long-term in San Diego. Professionals are also likely to have unique interests that they’d like to pursue but experience difficulties in locating others who share their interests.
DCPA functions as a social referral network. We connect professionals with other like-minded professionals and provide logistical support for the hosts. We are fully staffed by volunteers with no committees or boards. Our members do not pay membership fees. Virtually all of our communications are through email or videophone with occasional meetings over coffee.
As far as we know, we’re the first network with this vision nationwide so this is an experiment. With every passing week, we are making history. Come join us. It’s your community, not ours. How can we help?
